lewis structure shape
How many shapes are there for the lewis structures? (tetrahederal for example)

Re: lewis structure shape
I think there are 11 we need to know:
linear, trigonal planar, angular, tetrahedral, trigonal pyramidal, trigonal bipyramidal, see-saw, t-shaped, octahedral, square pyramidal, square planar

Re: lewis structure shape
Each of the shapes are affected by mainly two things: If they have lone pairs and how many different bonds they have with different atoms.

Re: lewis structure shape
in addition to knowing the shapes, also know the angles associated with them
Re: lewis structure shape
There are technically 12 from the 7th E textbook including pentagonal bipyramidal, though I don't think that shape would come up often compared to the other 11.

Re: lewis structure shape
You can figure out the different shapes based on the number of bonds and lone pairs of the compound. Also, the number of lone pairs of the compound.

Re: lewis structure shape
Lavelle has covered only 11 shapes and their corresponding angels so I am assuming those will be the only we will need to know for the upcoming test and final.
