Exercise 1 in Fundamentals Section

For finding how long the fiber extends, why do you use the radius instead of the diameter? Wouldn't that only be half the length it extends?

This is E1 for clarification. You're right, you should use the diameter to find the length. I think the atomic radius is given just because atoms are usually classified by radius rather than diameter.

You're right, the radius is just what's given in question E3, but you'll have to double it to find the diameter of an atom and solve the problem.
