which unit to use
If not given a specific unit to convert, should we just keep the units as it is in the problem, or convert it to the SI fundamental base units?

I think that if they don't give you a unit to convert to then just keep it the same. However, if they do give you something to convert to, then just stick with the moles of the converted element.

I think the units should be consistent with what the problem asks you to solve for.

I think if the problem gives you the same unit throughout, you can keep it as is, but I don't think it'll hurt to convert it to base units. I usually use the most “standard” one or SI base units if there are more than two units involved with the problem so mol instead of mmol or meter instead of millimeter.

Always stay consistent with the units given to you in the problem, but always remember that you may have to convert some units in order to fit into the problem (such as converting milliliters to liters to find molarity.) However if an answer seems too small or too large for a given unit, feel free to convert.

I think it is better to use the SI units since they are more applicable to chemistry, especially when you are doing a lab or stoichiometry.

Back in high school, I was told to always put your answer in the original units stated in the problem if not given a specific unit to use.

I think it is best to keep the units given unless they specially ask for a conversion or ask for different units. If they don't ask you to do that then it is prob best to keep the same units they gave you.
