Does anyone know how the midterm exam will be structured? Like how many questions there will be and if the questions will all be exercises or if there can be some theory questions as well?

I'm not entirely sure what the midterm is going to look like but I heard there's going to be multiple choice questions. We're going to go over our set up for the midterm during discussion next week so hopefully we can get a better idea!

I don't really see how they can give partial credit for the exams so I'm also assuming that it's going to be multiple choice! I'm not sure if they are going to give fill-ins for the exams.

My TA said it will be for sure mainly multiple choice and there might be some fill in but he dos not know for sure yet. Our TAs also proctor our exam.

Hi Emilie! I believe that the entire exam is multiple-choice, however, I am not entirely sure how many questions will be on it. Additionally, I believe that Dr. Lavelle sent out an email saying that there would be some shorter questions and some longer questions and that some of the wrong answer choices in the longer questions will count as partial credit.

Hi! So if we were in person, our midterm would consist of around 8 questions (I believe), with each question having multiple parts (a, b, c, etc). Thus, if you got part (a) wrong but everything else correct, you'd still get partial credit for that question. However, since we're online, our midterm is all multiple choice. To make up for the lack of ability to give us partial credit, there will be more questions overall but they will be shorter, and each question will be independent of one another. Hope this helps :)

I have heard from the UAs that there will be a mix of both exercise questions and conceptual questions, so it's important to understand the concepts along with the formulas. Also, some of the questions will be longer with more points, and some will be a bit easier to solve in order to buffer the points out. :) Hope this helps!

It seems like the longer questions will be 10 points, so they're pretty fat, but there will be shorter ones that are more conceptual or have only like 1 or 2 steps to the equations that will act as a buffer for those harder ones!

I heard that there will be around 10-15 questions. All of them will be multiple choice. I also asked my TA about how partial credit is going to work.
Some of the answers will be very similar, in the sense that, for example, A) is 100% correct and B) is 75% correct because you missed a calculation or a unit conversion. So you will receive partial credit for B if you put that as your answer.

I've also heard that the answer choices will be varied enough that if we round too soon or our SF are off, it will be easy to tell what the answer should be from a UA.

Ive heard that the midterm is around 20 questions. I am not sure how true that is given that there are only 50 minutes.

Hello! I know that it is all multiple-choice, and we have a 50 minute period to take the test and a 5 minute period to "settle in." There will be partial credit for certain answers on the longer questions (some multiple choice answers will factor in doing certain steps but not all steps right). You don't need to worry about significant digits, and the questions will be very similar to the textbook practice problems.

I heard from a UA that there will be some easy calculation questions worth few points to serve as grade buffers and there will be some long, multi-step questions that will be worth more.

I know that is a multiple choice exam and that it will given during our discussion section. This means that we only have 50 minutes to complete the exam. The number of questions was never specified, but the questions were made by the TA's and some were made by Professor.
