picometer conversion

Does anyone know how to convert m to picometer?
In a lot of the problems I see it seems like you just have to move the decimal place over and its usually a 3 digit number.

Example 1.5x10^-10 m converts to 150 pm.

Is there an actual mathematical way to compute it or is it just moving the decimal place over or some other method?

The meter to picometer conversion is:

1m = 1 x 10^12 picometers

To convert from meters to picometers, simply multiply the number of meters by 10^12.

Also, unless a question specifically asks for a certain unit, you can usually use the base unit (meters, grams, etc.). And if a problem does want for example picometers, having 1.5 x 10^-8 is just as correct as 150 x 10^-10.

I agree with Geethika. One way you can visualize it is by doing this method:

1.5 x 10^-10 m (1x10^12 pm / 1 m) = 1.5 x 10^2 pm = 150 pm

This way, you can see how the units cancel out. You can also check your answer vaguely by knowing that picometers should have a greater number than meters because it is much smaller than meters.

always remember that when you want to go from a higher unit to a lower unit you multiply so m to pm is x 10^12, and when you go from lower to higher you divide so pm to m is x 10^-12

When moving to picometer you can simply just multiply the meters by 10^12

In order to convert meters into picometers you would multiply by 1 * 10^-12.

1 picometer = 1 * 10^-12 meters, but i think it might be more important to remember angstroms!! ( 1 * 10^-10 meters) both of these are on our formula sheet though

Yeah, you would just divide the value (in this case 1.5 x 10^-10) by the unit conversion for picometers (1 x 10^-12) and you would get 150. You can calculate it quickly by seeing that there is a 10^2 difference between the 10's and simply moving the decimal place 2 times to the right.
