eV/atom to kJ/mol

Postby KiaraTenorio_14B » Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:19 pm

When converting eV/atom to kJ/mole after multiplying 1.66x10^-9 by 1.602x10^-19J and 1 kJ must we use avogadros number to convert from the atoms to the mol unit or do we not?

I believe so, yes. If it says per molecule of a certain element, you need to use Avogadro's number in the conversion.

Yes, you use Avogadro's number to get atoms to moles

Yes, you must as the molar mass is the mass for a whole mole of atoms so if you want to get the mass per atom of whatever element (or photon, electron, neutron, etc), you need to divide by avogadros number.

Yes, when going from moles to atoms.

Yes, you need to use Avogadro's number to convert from moles to molecules/atoms. (6.02 x 10^23)

Yes. After converting eV/atom to kJ/atom, you would then divide by 6.02 × 10^23 atoms/mol to get units of kJ/mol.

Yes you do. In general when converting units I would lay them all out as an equation to make sure the units properly cancel out. That way you don't have to memorize anything.

Yes Avogadro's number is required because it is the only way to go from number of atoms to mols.

Yes because you need it to go from number of atoms to mols.
