You do for the common ones, this includes their chemical symbol, charge, oxidation states, shape, etc.

Yes, we should memorize the common polyatomic ions used in this class.

Yes it is advised to know the polyatomic ions because it might not be given on the final. Some of the common polyatomic ions used in class are NH4^+, SO4^2-, SO3^2-, NO3^-,OH^-, O2^2-, C2H3O2^-,HCO3^-.

The common polyatomic ions that are mentioned in lectures should be memorized.
