Substituent -yl ending

Postby 704629866 » Fri Feb 26, 2016 12:44 pm

Does the -yl ending for a substituent only apply to hydrocarbons?

I believe that this is correct. Only in hydrocarbons do we use the ending -yl.

The -yl suffix is used for substituent groups derived from an alkane (so all single bonds).
