Tricks for structural Isomers

Postby Natalie Yakobian » Sun Feb 28, 2016 5:54 pm

Hi!
Does anyone know some good tricks for identifying how many and what structural isomers we should draw?

Thanks

There is no formula really, the best method is to just determine the degrees of unsaturation from the formula and think of isomers with that connectivity. By degrees of unsaturation, I mean like 1, 2, 3, double bonds etc... One double bond is the same as having one ring, two double bonds is the same as having two rings, or one ring and one double bond etc... So try and think in that manner.
