This question asks to name ch3chch3chch2ch3c(ch3)3 and I got 3 ethyl 2,2,4 trimethylpentane however the answer is 2,2,4 trimethyl ethylpentane and I dont understand why the triMethyl is getting alphabatized and placed before the Ethyl

I believe this is an error in the workbook. You are correct as 3-Ethyl should be in front of the 2,2,4 Trimethyl.

I got the same answer as you, from what I know ethyl should be coming before methyl but maybe the answer was like that because there were three methyls but I'm not entirely sure.
