Re: Memorizing the First Ten Alkenes
I make mnemonics for the first few because 5-10 follow the normal # prefixes; all end in the suffix -ane. ** I sometimes get confused with the hexane and heptane so just remember that hexane is six and hexane and six both have an x at the end! Here are a few mnemonics that I made for everyone to use
Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Heptane, Octane, Nonane, Decane
Many Elephants Paint Beautiful Portraits Hoping Humans Offer Nice Donations
Max Experiences Painful Bowel Passes, Hence His Oozing, Nasty Defecations
Mary Eats Peanut Butter Pizza, Her Husband, Oscar, Never Does

Also, if you don't like too long/strung together mnemonics; I often split them in half if you're trying to make your own but cant quite make a coherent sentence with the letters you're given. Also you can do it backwards (D,N,O, etc.), but just remember that you are doing it backwards!!!!

Re: Memorizing the First Ten Alkenes
To remember the first four just use this:
Monkeys Eat Peanut Butter
It's a funny little sentence that helps you memorize it.
The rest of them are the same as normal prefixes
