Sum of carbon numbering

Postby Jonathan_Hu_2C » Mon Mar 06, 2017 1:25 am

Just to clarify, there is no such thing as summing up all the numbers in the IUPAC naming right? For instance, we pick 4-Ethyl-2-Methyl-1-Propylcyclohexane as opposed to 1-Ethyl-3-Methyl-4-Propylcyclohexane not because 4+2+1<1+3+4 but because 2<3 right?

Interesting. But no, we do not sum numbers in IUPAC naming.
