Common Names on Page 94 of course reader

Postby Angela_Park_1F » Wed Mar 08, 2017 12:52 pm

On page 94, it lists "common names (often used non IUPAC names)"

Are we expected to know all these specifically? Or are they interchangeable with IUPAC names?
Also, I know some of these names overlap with IUPAC names. Which are the same in IUPAC naming?

Yes, we are required to know the common names that are in the course reader. They are interchangeable but we are expected to be able to identify them

We are expected to know common names. Also, the common name prefixes such as "iso" and "neo" are included when arranging the substituent alphabetically because it relates to the structural arrangement of the substituent.
