Structure naming

Postby Javier Portillo 3O » Wed Mar 08, 2017 5:39 pm

On page 9 of the O chem course reader, for the Trimethyldecane example the way it is named does not follow the tule of numbering based upon the lower number. Can someone explain why this is?

I believe that it actually does! The book numbers the substituents from the second carbon onwards, in order to give each substituent the lowest number possible.
