Arranging substituents while naming

Postby Anjali_U_3L » Fri Mar 10, 2017 10:48 am

Do the prefixes "di", "cyclo", "tert", etc matter when we're arranging substituents in alphabetical order?

No, those prefixes don't count when putting them in alphabetical order. (Example: Etheyl would be listed before dimethyl)

The prefixes "di" and "tert" do not appear when putting them alphabetically because it is a prefix regarding the number of carbons bonded together. However, common name prefixes such as "neo" and "iso" are included when arranging the substituent alphabetically because it relates to the structural arrangement of the substituent.
