PRIORITY IN NAMING

Postby Jimmy Zhou 3D » Fri Mar 10, 2017 1:27 pm

I hope this link helps everyone with their naming. It gives a summary of the priorities. Basically if a functional group has higher priority, it'll take precedence in the final naming of that compound. For example, if an alkene has a carboxylic group, let's say Hexene with a carboxylic group. Since the Carboxylic acid group has a higher priority, it'll take precedence. The compound will be named Hexanoic Acid instead of just hexene.
