Naming structure
if I have a neopentane structure, can I name it as 2,2-dimethylpentane? Is neopentane preferred over 2,2-dimethylpentane?

The IUPAC naming of neopentane is dimethyl propane.
2,2-dimethylpentane would be the IUPAC name of neoheptane.
2,2-dimethylpentane would be the IUPAC name of neoheptane.
