Multiple Functional Groups

Postby Amanda Mac 1C » Tue Mar 13, 2018 9:41 pm

So my TA mentioned that one element could be involved in multiple functional groups at the same time. Is there an example of this?

We are doing single functional groups on one molecule at a time.
But yes, as we saw in class oxygen is involved in multiple functional groups: alcohol, ether, ketone, etc.

Just want to confirm - we don't need to learn Newman diagrams for the exam right? I don't remember it being covered in lecture... just functional groups + line diagrams.
