Organic Molecules in general

Postby Kate Zeile 2D » Fri Mar 16, 2018 7:29 am

Just to make sure, all organic molecules have carbons that always have four bonds, correct? No lone pairs on carbon allowed? I know this was emphasized in class, but I just want to make sure it applies to all organic molecules.

I think there are exceptions to the rules, such as radicals where there is an extra electron on the carbon or where carbon forms 5 bonds instead of 4. But yea, for the sake of this class, I think we assume there are always 4 bonds on the carbon atoms.
