I was wondering in problem 8D of 2011 Final, theres a Newman projection of 1-chloro-5fluorohexane. One of the molecular formulas in the anti position is CFHCH3. Would it be wrong if I wrote CHCH3F or CHFCH3? How do you know the order to write the atoms?

CFHCH3 is correct, since the fluorine is on carbon 5. The other thing attached to carbon 5 is hydrogen. So CHFCH3 is acceptable also. But CHCH3F is incorrect because that suggests there's 1 thing bonded to C-5 and 4 things bonded to C-6.
