"iso" naming
When do you put "iso" in front of the name? And does it received alphabetical priority or is it ignored?

Re: "iso" naming
Iso is not taken into alphabetical account, and it comes whenever there is a fork in the carbon substituent chain. For example: "isoethyl"

For question 1.16 in the organic chemistry textbook, why is the answer 2-isopropyl-1,1-dimethylcyclopentane and not 1,1-dimethyl-2-isopropylcyclopentane? Following the alphabetical ordering rule

This is incorrect. Iso and neo are the 2 prefixes that are included when alphabetizing substituents.

This one is tricky, so you take iso- into account when alphabetizing the substituents, but not di-. Therefore, you have to think of it as if dimethyl starts with an M and isopropyl starts with an I, which is why isopropyl is first.
