Numbering Priority

Postby Cole_Heramb_2E » Fri Mar 17, 2017 1:23 pm

Okay I just wanted to get this straight. When numbering a molecule: Functional groups have priority of course, then comes alkene/alkyne special bonds, then substituents?

Yes, that seems correct. Substituents also get priority from alphabetical order if the numbering is the same from either side.

Functional groups should always be given priority with numbering, even if there is a lower numerical value that could be used instead.
