Are Alkenes considered functional groups?

Postby Alex Dib 4H » Sun Mar 19, 2017 12:31 pm

I came across a question, can't recall which, that asked us to identify all functional groups in a given molecule. The answer also included double bond alkenes in the list of functional groups. For our purposes, should we consider alkenes and alkynes as functional groups if asked to identify functional groups in a molecule? Thanks

I don't think we have to consider alkenes and alkynes functional groups. Lavelle only mentioned we should be able to identify and name Halides, alcohols, ethers, ketones, carboxylic acids, aldehydes, and amines.
