Naming Alkyne with cycloalkane and substituents?

Postby Raul Hernandez » Tue Mar 07, 2017 9:19 pm

Hello. So, while doing some practice problems for molecular formulas and their names, I stumbled upon this problems and I really can't figure out why it is named the way it is. It says it has a "dimethyl" on the 7th and 8th carbon, but I don't understand how their counting the carbons or WHERE the two methyls are. This just doesn't make any sense to me. Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

There is an error in the answer. There is no dimethyl group and the cyclopropyl group is not on the 5th carbon.
