What is a halide?

Question: What is a halide? Is it the same as a halogen and are they usually electrophiles or nucleophiles?

Answer: A halide is a terminal halogen (a halogen that is attached to an end in a carbon chain). Halides are generally nucleophiles but they can be either an electrophile or a nucleophile depending on what else is connected to the halogen.
