sig figs round up

Postby 106033555 » Thu Oct 12, 2023 2:44 pm

How do we know how many sig figs to round up to at the end of the problem? Does it depend on the smallest amount of sig figs given in the question or on the number that we're given?

The final answer should have the same amount of significant figures as the given number with the least amount of significant figures.

When doing the calculations, round your result to have the same number of decimal places as the measurement with the fewest decimal places (for addition and subtraction) or to match the measurement with the fewest significant figures (for multiplication and division).
