Sig Figs on Midterm

Postby Elian L » Fri Oct 20, 2023 9:53 pm

Just a quick and simple question. As someone who always gets my significant figures messed up, how many points will I lose on the midterm for inaccurate sig figs? Are there any tips for keeping my sig figs in order?

I remember hearing the professor saying that he is not very stingy about sig figs on the mid term. He cares more about you knowing the concepts than the exact amount of signifcant figures. It should be specified in the question if you need to be weary of sig figs, so based off what I heard in lecture, sig figs should not really be an issue for the midterm. It is briefly reviewed in one of the early online lectures, though.

To add on to this point, when one of your values is close to a significant figure for example 4000 and in the choices it 3.96 *10 ^3 you can choose the value closest to your calculation answer.
