Accepted range of answers

Postby Lorena Zhang 4E » Tue Oct 02, 2018 5:14 pm

For some of the multistep problems, I got answers that are slightly off from the ones on the solution manual due to significant figures. For example, 0.001-0.002 off for a three significant figure problem. I am wondering if my answer would be acceptable. What is generally the accepted range for the answers?

Someone asked this question in my discussion section today and my TA (Liv) said that if it is few decimals off you will still get full credit. As long as it has the right sig figs.

Professor also said that as long as it doesn't contribute to over 5% error you should be fine, though I'm not sure how easily you'd be able to calculate that efficiently when it matters. But just as info!
