### Sig Figs

If a question gives values with three significant figures and an answer is a whole number like 400, would I have to denote the answer with a decimal point like 400.?

400. or 4.00x10^2 would both work.

For questions like these, do the trailing zeroes count as sig figs? For example, do 400.00 and 400.0 have the same number of sig figs?

400.00 and 400.0 do not have the same number of sig figs because 400.00 if more accurate to a hundredth place than 400.0

400 only has one significant figure while 400. has three significant figures

Whenever there is a decimal, you count from left to right starting with the first nonzero number, which is why 400.0 and 400.00 have a different amount of sig figs.

I think if the question starts off with 3 sigfigs you need to include the . at the end of 400 (400.) to make it 3 sigfigs and follow the rules!
