Regarding the Homework

On the homework problems to turn in, do we need to have completely accurate significant figures? For example, is it okay to round in the middle of a problem for the homework or will we be marked down?

After reading a few other posts in Chemistry Community, I'm pretty sure that it is okay to round a little while you're writing down your work for the homework problem, within good reason though. However, your final answer should follow significant figure rules. For example, if you're calculating the number of molecules in a compound and you're given the mass in gram with 3 significant figures it's okay to round your calculations a little, but you should still use a few more significant figures (like go to the 5th or 6th significant figure) during your calculations and then make sure to use the same number of significant figures in your final answer as was given to you in the original question.

I would personally try to match the sigfigs given in the problem, but you can use however many sigfigs between calculations. Just round at the end :).
