Hi, I heard about the atlantic pacific rule about sig figs earlier from some of my classmates earlier, but I don't actually understand it.
Can someone explain it?

the rule states that if there is an Absence of a decimal point, you start counting from the right side of the number, and if there is a Presence of a decimal point you start counting from the left side of the number to determine how many significant figures there are overall.

If there's a decimal point, start counting digits from the left starting with the first non-zero digit. If there isn't a decimal point, start counting digits from the right side starting with the first non-zero digit. Just think of a map: Pacific = left, Atlantic = right.
