### Basic Rules for Sig Figs

I never learned significant figures in high school so can someone please give me a basic rundown of all the important rules for significant figures?

There is a helpful document on Sig Figs on the 14A class website, entitled "Everything you want to know about Sig Fig", it is one of the links in the course materials section.

### Re: Basic Rules for Sig Figs

-Zeros that are only used to set a decimal point are NOT significant (e.g. 0.0005 has 1 sig fig, as does 2000)
-Zeros in between two integers ARE significant (e.g. 6067 has 4 sig figs)
-Zeros trailing after a decimal ARE significant (e.g. 6067.300 has 7 sig figs)
-100 has 1 sig fig, but 100. has 3 sig figs
-When multiplying and dividing, round your answer to the least sig figs you started with
