Significant Figures usage confusion

How do I know how many sig figs I should be using?

For multiplication and division, the answer should have the same significant figure as the smaller number. For e.g., 2.0 mol/2.00L= 1.0M.

Would this also apply to adding and subtracting?

Addition and subtraction have a slightly different rule: you utilize the smallest decimal places instead of the smallest sig figs.
