### Sig Fig Rules

Just to confirm: the rules for significant figures are the same for addition and subtraction, and they are the same for multiplication and division, right?

The rules for multiplication/division and addition/subtraction are similar. For addition/subtraction, the number of decimal places in your answer must be the same as the smallest number of decimal places in your equation. For example, 0.032 + 0.40 = 0.43.
For multiplication/division, your answer should have the same number of significant figures as the least amount of significant figures in the equation. For example, (2.31)(3.0)=6.9.

### Re: Sig Fig Rules

Whenever you are doing a problem that involves multiple numbers in one equation, the number with the least amount of significant figures will determine the (amount of) significant figures of the solution.
