Next Week's Test 1
Hello! I'm just wondering if we'll be heavily graded on whether or not we use sig figs correctly when giving our answers for next week's test in discussions?

This same question came up in my discussion section and my TA said that they aren't really looking for the correct sig figs. He said to know the rules and review it if it's been a while but it's not stressed on the test. He also mentioned you should pay attention to your units because they will be looking for the correct units in each answer.

Hi all,
I was in this class for a few weeks before it became necessary for me to go home on medical leave. I would recommend knowing the sig fig rules, even though they will not be graded harshly on the test. It is a useful skill moving forward and will definitely be useful in later chemistry and mathematics courses.

Hi,
I think it’s a good idea to know the basics of sig figs and when to round, just to make sure that your calculations are more accurate and it’ll help with future topics as well. Professor Lavelle has a link about everything you need to know for sig figs if you needed any review. I don't remember what my TA said, but I suggest knowing sig figs anyways because it'll probably be needed in future exams.

I believe it will be different for every TA, but my TA said the correct use of sig figs will be part of his grading.

Does anyone know exactly what topics we will be tested on for the first test?

Re: Next Week's Test 1
My TA said that Lavelle has moved away from grading sig figs very hard because they distract from the actual concepts.

Re: Next Week's Test 1
I think the most important info to study for Test 1 would be the Review and fundamentals not so much the sig fig aspect

Re: Next Week's Test 1
I believe you lose a point if your answer is not in the correct sig fig format. However, since your TA creates the test, the leniency on sig figs varies.
