When to round for sig figs?

Postby Jedrick Zablan 3L » Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:05 pm

Hey I was wondering when we should round for sig figs during our calculations? Should we do it after each step or at the end of our calculation?

I'm pretty sure we were told to always round at the very end of the calculations, and not each step in between.

For calculations I would just keep the entire number on the calculator but round the numbers when I write them down. Just make sure that the final answer is in sig figs. This seems like it makes the most sense.

Rounding for sig figs is usually done at the end. If you round during the calculations, it could affect your final answer.

keep the whole number in your calculations because if you round too early, you might end up with an answer that's slightly off.

I undertand we have to round till the end so that we get more accurate numbers but, if there multiple parts to a problem, for example where you have to find moles, mass, etc, in the same problem, should i just write down exact numbers?

keep your calculations precise and then round your final answer so you have an accurate calculation

Round at the end of your calculation so you don't loose precision.

Always round at the end.

Wait to round until the end of the problem to usually 3 sig figs. Also if the ending decimal is continuous, underline the number of three sigs figs in the problem.

No, you should only round for sig figs the you have your final answer.

Always round your answer with sig figs at the end. Use the calculator to apply exact numbers during the process. Your final answer would be more accurate that way.

I think its best to be as accurate as possible throughout the problem and then give your answer in sig figs at the end
