Ester and Amide

Postby Jasmine Lam 1I » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:22 pm

For the Homework question 2.46 in the Intro to OChem book, the picture includes functional groups like ester and amide, do we need to know them for the final or no? I know amide is basically (-NH-) but for ester, it is quite confusing...

Thanks for helping guys :)

If it's been covered in the course reader, then you should know it. (Since it's not on the reader, I guess you don't have to know it.)

Ester is not too hard. Just remember that Ester's a lady who's got a hat and a handbag. The carbonyl (C=O) is her hat, and the ether (-O-) is her handbag. You'll never miss her again when she's sitting on the page.
