Numbers within the name?

Postby Cameron Hankins 3J » Wed Mar 09, 2016 12:49 pm

Will our answers be marked incorrect if the naming is redundant? For example, propan-1-ol instead of just propanol or prop-1-ene instead of just propene? Also, is it ok to do the naming inside of the name all the time? For example can propan-2-ol be written for 2-propanol freely?

It is redundant but you definitely won't lose points for it! But when you are reading something and it doesn't have a number, you can reasonably assume that it is 1.
