New kinds of structures

Can someone help me identify the differences between the aldehyde, ketone, and ether? Also what is meant by the ether attaches to the smallest chain??

aldehydes and ketones both have the carbonyl functional group, C=O. Aldehydes are attached to the ends of a carbon chain, one or more substituents is a hydrogen. Ketones are in the middle of the chains, where both their substituents are non hydrogens (can both be carbons).

Ether is an oxygen bonded to two separate carbons. When naming the ether, it is identified by the shortest carbon chain. so if it is bonded to a methane and an ethane, it will be named methoxy ethane.
