Functional Groups on Final?

Postby Maria1E » Mon Mar 12, 2018 1:57 pm

Will we be tested on the functional groups/intro to ochem that was discussed in today's lecture on our final?

The functional groups we learned today are part of the 14B syllabus and so I would expect that they are fair to be tested upon for the final

Yes. Just like we did in class. Identifying functional groups given the structure.

I will do more examples on Wednesday.

Far easier than reaction mechanisms ...

Will we also be expected to remember examples of molecules with functional groups?

I highly doubt we would be asked to regurgitate memorized molecules on the final. Dr. Lavelle said he wants us to understand functional groups visually, meaning you should most likely be able to decipher which function groups are present in a given molecule.
