Ketones vs Aldehydes

Postby nelms6678 » Sat Mar 17, 2018 8:23 pm

When given line structures what should we look for that distinguishes a ketone from an aldehyde since they're pretty similar?

An aldehyde always ends in a hydrogen while a ketone has a carbon on both sides. Think of aldehyde as "hiding the hydrogen"

Aldehydes' C is bonded to either 1 or 2 H. Ketones' C is bonded to 2 C.
