Postby Phuong Pham 3G » Fri Mar 13, 2015 2:50 am

How do you know IUPAC names from common amine names like propylamine, isopropylamine, mythyl ethyl amine, and trimethylamine?

The way I come up with the IUPAC name from common names is that I draw out the common name structure and then I use the drawing to name the structure using IUPAC. I have attached a picture with a detailed explanation of the process. Hope this helps.

Well done Martha.
Yes you first need to write the structures associated with common name .
Then figure out the IUPAC name following the standard rules

Return to “*Amines”
