For #5 on page 43, why is it 3-bromo-1-iodocyclohexane instead of 1-bromo-3-iodocyclohexane?

That's because when the substituents are elements, it no longer comes down to alphabetical order but rather atomic number. So since Iodine has a bigger atomic number than Bromine, it gets precedence and is numbered first.

Lavelle answered this same question and said that you always take into account alphabetical order when naming, so the correct answer should actually be 1-bromo-3-iodo-cyclohexane.
