AlCl3 Friedal Crafts Alkylation

On page 148 of the organic chemistry textbook, why does the first step illustrate that the electrons from the single bond attack the AlCl3. I did not think that single bonds were a source of electron abundance. I would think that the lone pairs on the Cl would attack AlCl3 and the polarity between R and Cl would cause the electrons to jump onto the Cl. Could someone explain?

You're not wrong, the arrow looks as if the single bond is the area of electron abundance. However, the Cl is the nucleophile in the Friedal Crafts Alkylation and is attacking the electron deficient Al in AlCl3.

but why wouldnt it attack it from the lone pairs and not the single bond on the RCL
