Organic Chem and Thermodynamics

Postby Delilah Naranjo dis 3j » Wed Feb 22, 2017 4:35 pm

How are thermodynamics and organic chem related? Also does kinectics control a reaction or does thermodynamics control a reaction?

I think kinetics is the study of the rate of reactions, while thermodynamics helps track the heat, internal energy, entropy, gibbs free energy etc of the system in question.

We will probably see a more evident connection between organic chemistry and thermodynamics as the chapter progresses: but it probably has to do with the bonds and the organic molecules.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I believe both kinetics and thermodynamics can control a reaction, but these competing pathways make up different products in their reactions. A lot of the time the pathway depends on the activation energy.
