Electrophiles and Nucleophiles for Quiz 3

Postby Jimmy Zhou 3D » Sun Mar 05, 2017 1:15 pm

Just wondering,

Do we only need to know how to IDENTIFY nucleophiles and electrophiles for quiz 3 or do we also need to be able to KNOW them based on strength as a nucleophile or electrophile?

I do not believe you need to know the strength of each electro or nucleophile. But if it is asked, you can estimate through size of atoms and other determinants of electronegativity.

I think it's good to be able to identify them but also know the strengths since the assigned readings do cover it, even though it wasn't emphasized in lecture.

There course reader and hw questions covers relative strength of nucleophiles and electrophiles so you are expected to be able to rationalize their strengths.
