Rxn steps

Postby Wesley_Rugen_1E » Sun Mar 05, 2017 10:15 pm

How do you know which step of an organic reaction will occur first (nucleophile or electrophile)? Or do these steps occur simultaneously?

All depends on the reaction, and which mechanism it goes through. It will be clearer when you learn about different mechanisms and what governs why this happens, like the specific properties of molecules. So you don't really know.

So nucleophiles are species that have a pair of electrons to donate, whilst electrophiles are species that either have a positive charge or are neutral but which have empty electron orbitals which are attracted to an electron rich centre.Electrophiles include such things as Lewis acids (e.g. H3O+ ions) and halogens.
