Aryl carbanions are aromatic compounds (part of carbons having sigma bonds and delocalized pi bonds forming a ring) and have a -1 charge whereas Alkyl carbanions are non aromatic compounds and have a +1 charge.

I dont understand though, on page 147 of introduction to organic chem the example for alkyl carbanions has a positive charge. why is it that one has a positive charge and the other a negative?? Thanks!

Also a difference is that alkyl carbanions are sp3 hybridized, and aryl carbanions are sp2 hybridized.
