resonance structures on exams
If a question asks us to draw the Lewis structure would we be required to give all the resonance structures or is one variation of them okay?

I think we are only required to write one structure and not all of the resonance structures unless we are told to do so.

Resonance hybrids can be indicated by drawing dotted lines for the different possible double/triple bonds of the molecule that can be moved.

I think the question should be clear about what it is expecting from us in the answer. Resonance structures are probably only required if asked for.

I believe there was something like this mentioned in my discussion section, but even if there are many different structures, a certain form will be more favorable or stable with its distribution of electrons and bonds. However, like many people have said, they should be clear with what they are asking on the test.

It was stated during class that the question will be specific on whether or not you would need to list all of the resonance structure or not. If it states for just one, any of the resonance structure will work as an answer. I think if it just asks for the Lewis structure then you would only need to write one of the resonance structure.
