A dipole describes the separation of charges in a molecule of covalently bonded atoms. I'm pretty sure a dipole moment is just the measurement of the separation of those opposite charges.

A dipole is a separation of opposite electrical charges. The larger the difference in electronegativity, the greater the dipole moment.

So if there is a greater dipole moment, does the molecule have a stronger ionic bond? And is its potential energy greater?

A dipole occurs between two covalently bonded atoms where one is more electronegative than the other. This difference creates a separation of electrical charges

Answering Victoria’s question, if there is a greater dipole moment, then yes the molecule has a stronger ionic bond between its atoms. I would think that its potential energy wouldn’t necessarily be greater, as the weakest bond, Van Der Waals, has the greatest potential energy out of all bonds/interactions
